Denmark of all places! A marine slaughterhouse!

URGENT: Hold Denmark Accountable for the Slaughter of Pilot Whales

Sign Now

Joseph,
One of the most brutal whale hunts in the world is the Faroe IslandsgrindadrĂ¡p, or grind. Pilot whales and other marine mammals are ruthlessly slaughtered, turning the bays red with their blood.
During a grind, a dozen or so small boats drive a family group of long-finned pilot whales, or sometimes bottlenosed, Risso's or white-sided dolphins, into shallow bays where the rest of the whaling team waits with knives to stab the animals and sever their spinal cords – leaving them to bleed out in the bay.
This graphic and inhumane scene has been playing out for centuries – and once played an important role in providing protein for the communities which live on the rocky islands. But due to health concerns caused by the high levels of mercury and other pollution in the marine mammals, the meat is no longer needed.
Even though the hunt is largely symbolic for the community, more than one thousand whales can be killed during a summer's worth of grinds.
Despite these facts, and in violation of international habitat agreements, Denmark continues to mobilize the full weight of their government – including the navy, police and customs officers – to support the grinds.
If enough of us sign on and speak out, we can convince the European Commission to enforce their agreements and end Denmark's support for this horrible torture of marine wildlife.
Thank you for taking action,
 Aaron V.

Joseph,
Last week was not a good one for our planet.
In a move that's been called "one of the most reckless and reprehensible decisions ever made by a US president" [1], Donald Trump announced he is abandoning the Paris climate agreement.
I want to let you, one of our loyal Greenpeace supporters, know that our resolve and commitment to protecting our planet has only be strengthened. If Trump thinks we're going to stand by while he puts our planet on course to catastrophe, now is the moment we'll prove him wrong.
As you read this, Greenpeace's teams - from Asia to Europe - are already mobilizing. Our office in the US has launched a huge response, urgently calling for members of Congress to oppose the president. And here in Canada, we'll be ramping up pressure on Prime Minister Trudeau and other leaders to condemn Trump's move in the strongest possible terms and, most importantly, to back those words with action by adopting even stronger measures here, like substituting renewable energy investments for proposed pipeline and tar sands expansion.
Though the Paris agreement is by no means perfect, it's still a monumental achievement: a deal that hundreds of thousands of us across the globe tirelessly campaigned for. When it was agreed in 2015, it was the first time in history the world's governments came together to set out comprehensive plans to tackle the climate crisis.
But Trump’s actions don't just risk undoing hard work. While climate change might seem like a distant threat, for many people around the world it is a life or death issue. In sub-Saharan Africa, climate change is triggering more extreme drought and pushing farmers into an uncertain future.[2] In Bangladesh, rising sea levels - brought on by melting ice and warming seas - are forcing people to abandon their homes.[3]
With his announcement, Trump turned his back on one of the greatest threats humanity faces, and he chose to put more lives at risk.
While all countries must play their part in slashing greenhouse gases, the US has a crucial role to play in tackling the climate crisis. Each year, the US pumps out a huge share of global emissions.[4] And as one of the world's richest and most powerful nations, other governments look to the US for leadership on solving global problems.
The good news is that Trump is already looking isolated. In the hours after the president's announcement, China vowed to push forward with the Paris agreement despite Trump's decision to withdraw.[5] France's new President Emmanuel Macron even went on TV to issue a statement condemning Trump.[6]
Without the US onboard, we must act fast to pressure other countries ramp up their plans to reduce climate-warming emissions. In the coming weeks and months, we'll need to work together to prevent Trump's actions from rippling out and causing more damage. This could be one of the biggest challenges our movement has ever faced.
Last week’s news isn't what we hoped for. And right now, many of us will be feeling uncertain about the future of our planet. But today let's remember there's reason to have hope too. While Trump is turning his back on the world, there are millions of us across the globe who are determined to work together to create a greener, more peaceful world - and leave a planet that's fit for generations to come.
Greenpeace is a huge, worldwide movement of people who care deeply about the future of the world we live in. We're a movement of people whose resolve only becomes stronger when faced with huge challenges. And most of all, we're a movement that's never giving up.
With all this in mind, I want to sincerely thank you for your continuing support and solidarity.
With hope and gratitude,
-Joanna

FROM GREENPLANET.ORG

Well, it happened. Despite strong opposition from both sides, Trump has withdrawn the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement. The U.S. joins only two countries not participating in the agreement – Syria and Nicaragua.
The Paris Agreement, adopted in December 2015, is a cornerstone of the global fight againstclimate change and the catastrophic results of this phenomenon. The pact deals with the mitigation, adaptation, and finance of greenhouse gas emissions – the fundamental cause of the greenhouse effect.
But thankfully, many do have a voice of reason, unlike Trump and are still committed to the Paris Climate Agreement. Founder and Billionaire CEO of Bloomberg, Michael Bloomberg has offered to make up the $15 million in funding that the United Nations stands to lose because of Trumps decision to withdraw from the agreement.

“Americans are not walking away from the Paris Climate Agreement. Just the opposite — we are forging ahead,” Bloomberg said

2925154094_f87a153774_z
And there is even more hope. The New York Times reported, that joining Bloomberg in denouncing Trump’s decision is an unnamed group that includes 30 mayors, three governors, more than 80 university presidents and more than 100 businesses, which is negotiating with the United Nations to have their plan for climate change accepted alongside contributions to the Paris climate deal by other nations.
New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr., and Washinton State Governor Jay R. Inslee, released a statement reaffirming their commitment to exceed the targets of the agreement and to curb carbon pollution. “Together, California and New York represent approximately 60 million people – nearly one-in-five Americans – and 20 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product. With or without Washington [D.C.], we will work with our partners throughout the world to aggressively fight climate change and protect our future,” part of the statement reads. Bill Peduto, Mayor of Pittsburgh will also follow the guidelines of the agreement.

You Can Join Them!

While there is undoubtedly a whole lot that needs to be done from a governmental standpoint, we cannot forget the tremendous impact that we all can have every single day. The goal of the Paris Agreement is to lower global greenhouse gas emissions, and interestingly, many of the foods we eat everyday play a large role in those emissions.
On whole, industrial animal agriculture is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than the entire transportation sector. How is this? Well, we use a majority of the world’s freshwater and land resources to produce cheap meat and dairy. Cattle ranching is directly responsible for 80 percent of deforestation in the Amazon, while the area of deforested lands in South America used to produce soy for livestock is larger than Belgium, the Netherlands, France, and Germany combined. Considering a large portion of these goods are imported to the U.S., we are all complicit in the destruction. And this is literally only one example of how industrial animal agriculture impacts the planet (click here for more).
Pretty horrible, right? But what if we told you, we can all make a huge positive impact without even having to try that hard.
Choosing more plant-based foods over meat and dairy is one thing everyone can do todrastically reduce their impact on the environment. Knowing all that we do about the impact of meat consumption on the environment and animals, we are faced with a choice – either we can continue to buy into this destructive industry … or we can choose better.
You can start eating for the planet by doing nothing more than choosing a delicious plant-based meal over one laden with animal products. If you look at it from a personal perspective, you can cut your own carbon footprint in half just by leaving meat off your plate for one year. (Plus save a lot of water, redirect grain for people to eat, and help protect endangered species…)

You can #EatForThePlanet starting today. Just follow the three simple steps below.

1. Moderate: Limit consumption of your favorite meats like beef, lamb, pork, etc.
2. Replace: Try to swap animal-based products in your daily diet with vegan alternatives (milk, butter, mayo, cheese, grilled chicken, beef crumbles, sausages, cold cuts, etc.)
3. Embrace: Add plant-based whole foods (local and organic when possible) to your diet like greens, fresh fruits, and vegetables, whole grains, plant proteins like lentils, nuts/seeds, beans, tofu, etc.
As Nil Zacharias, the co-founder of One Green Planet says, “Eat in a way that nourishes you without starving the planet.”
Considering the fact that many experts have shown that we cannot meet our collective goal to escape a 2 degree Celcius temperature change without reducing our global meat consumption, this is one of the most important things you can do to help. We all have the power to create a better future for our children, and the countless animals we share the planet with, by making one easy swap. If you’re ready to start doing this in your own life, check outOne Green Planet’s #EatForThePlanet campaign.

No Mr. Scheer, do not play with an Axe!

Dear Joseph,
As you probably know by now, the Conservatives chose Andrew Scheer as their new leader on the weekend.

During the leadership race, Mr. Scheer made his views about the CBC and public broadcasting well known. In short, he wants to axe CBC News.

I am writing to ask you to invest in a new FRIENDS campaign to counter this threat.
Mr. Scheer and his team’s enthusiastic hostility toward public broadcasting is fueled by the opinions of the Conservative Party ‘base’ from whom they have been soliciting support. This is a small but vocal minority whoseviews about the CBC are extreme and far outside the mainstream of Canadians who support and value the CBC.
We know this because we have just completed an opinion research project comparing the views of Conservative Party members with those of Canadians.
This project contains a vital lesson for Mr. Scheer: to gain traction with Canadians, you need to reconsider your hostility towards public broadcasting.
Encouraging the Conservative Party to do a 180-degree turn on its CBC policy won’t be easy, but with your help we can make it happen. That’s why I am writing.
We have the information we need to persuade Mr. Scheer that calling for the dismantling of CBC News is a dead end for the Conservatives – putting them in conflict with the views of an overwhelming majority of Canadians, including those Canadians who would consider voting Conservative.
FRIENDS commissioned Nanos Research to poll Canadians and Mainstreet Research to poll Conservative voting delegates. The results demonstrate a deep dividebetween the 259,010 Conservative Party paid-up members and the rest of us 36 million Canadians when it comes to the CBC.
Andrew Scheer has spent the past year fighting to gain support from CBC-phobic members of the Conservative Party. Meanwhile, ordinary Canadians value the CBC as much as ever, and passionately understand the importance of public broadcasting.
We have a plan to get this information out but we need your help to do it with maximum effect!
We want to start with advertising in Ottawa, then turn up the heat in the ridings of key Conservatives when they return home after the adjournment of Parliament in late June.

This is a big new campaign for FRIENDS, and a crucial one.

If we act now, Andrew Scheer and his CBC-bashing supporters may be persuaded to drop their extreme policy, not because of a change of heart, but rather because those opinions will interfere with their priority to connect with the voters they need if they are to contend for the hearts and minds of Canadians. Re-visiting their CBC hostility is a pre-condition of connecting with these voters.
Please give generously to this important campaign.
Please make an investment in protecting the CBC now
Regards,
Ian Morrison

FRIENDS of Canadian Broadcasting
PS: This could be a defining moment for supporters of public broadcasting.  We have to roll up our sleeves and make sure that Mr. Scheer and his Conservatives understand Canadians will not stand for more CBC bashing.

Millions may die because of us!!!

Global warming is created by selfish greed!

When a drought is created in Africa as a consequence of global warming, millions of innocent people face the risk of starvation and death! However, around the world those people responsible for global warming enjoy the benefits of a comfortable existence and seldom think about who survives or who dies as long as they personally enjoy life and are not forced to face water shortages and starvation or sickness. What happens, however, if the comfortable are forced to face facts and are no longer able to enjoy the benefits of greed and largess? Will they finally change their patterns of behavior?

Unless motivated to change their economic concepts, comfortable people will maintain a level of global pollution detrimental to almost everyone on the planet except themselves! A level of pollution which creates and maintains personal profits for a small minority of people. The One Percent at the expense of the Ninety Nine percent and bad habits are difficult to change when they are rewarded with money and power! This is not to say I advocate egalitarianism or communism but I do advocate much needed economic changes!
Our present economic patterns are destructive to the Biodiversity of Earth! I advocate much needed changes to our economic priorities, We have to create incentives for global companies to protect Earth's natural environment. Industrial pollution is no longer tolerable and it is damaging  and changing our weather patterns around the planet. We are left with no choice but to stop destroying the natural processes that support life on this small Blue planet Earth. We can, however, create a world economy that benefits all life on Earth.

Who are the people responsible for global warming? Look in the mirror. Do you drive a gas burning car? Do you use plastic products?
What can you do to stop global warming?
 1. Stop driving internal combustion engines.
 2. Stop using plastic products. Create non polluting products that benefit life on Earth. One good idea is to bring your own washable cup or a Thermos Bottle to your favorite coffee house. Pay for the Coffee and sit down to drink it but later bring your cup home. This will help to stop the paper waste created in fast food restaurants.
 3. Stop eating meat and replace meat with nuts and fruits and vegetables.
 4. Plant millions of leafy Trees everywhere to absorb C.O.2 and also plant vegetable gardens.
 5. Stop making babies! The planet is over populated with too many people! Teach birth control methods.
 6. Stop listening to religious people who dictate what you should or should not do with your body and your life. Religious leaders simply enjoy the power tripping and some can be dangerous! Study science based provable facts and that should keep you busy for the rest of your life. The same goes for almost all government politicians. Listen to them only if they speak facts.
 7.  Join any political party advocating the protection of Nature and force them to keep their promise.
 8.  Stop listening to brain washing Television commercials. They will attempt to sell you anything for money.
 9.  Study science and math and join the smartest people on the planet. I recommend NASA.com.
10. Drive all electric vehicles or ride a Bicycle or run and/or walk. The best Electric is Tesla.com.
11. Listen to computer Ted.com conversations and take note of College and University articles advocating new ideas and inventions that do not create pollution!
12. Work for the common good and remain honest at all cost. Sooner or later you will come face to face with the corrupting influences of profit and greed. Accept the money and distribute all but your own basic living wage to non-profit organizations.
13.  Be happy and smile. Fun and laughter lead to love and sex but remember number 5 and play safe! If you are desperate to have children make One and adopt Two.
   Bye for now!
   Joseph Raglione.

Greenpeace Logo

Joseph,

The Greenpeace ship Beluga II has set sail on a scientific voyage around Scotland - sampling the sea for plastic pollution and documenting the threat on beautiful and biodiverse habitats and wildlife.

So far the team has seen basking sharks, seals, guillemots, puffins and thousands of gannets! But they’ve also seen a huge amount of plastic pollution - on beaches, in nests and even in the beaks of seabirds.

Plastic bottles are one of the main contributors to plastic pollution and wildlife harm in our oceans - and drinks giant Coca-Cola is the biggest producer of plastic bottles in the world, producing over 100 billion plastic bottles every year.

But Coke isn’t taking responsibility for the huge amount of single-use plastic it’s producing - and billions of it’s bottles are ending up as garbage, on our beaches and in landfill.

We want to show Coke the true extent of its plastic pollution - but we need your help.

Next time you spot a used Coca-Cola bottle that's been discarded somewhere it shouldn't be (i.e. anywhere that isn't the recycling bin!) share it with Coke!

All you need to do is take a picture of the bottle (or bottle cap) and follow the instructions below:

On Instagram - Post your picture and tag @Cocacola - to increase the chance of Coke seeing your post, add hashtags #EndOceanPlastics, #ShareACoke, #CokeSummer, #TasteTheFeeling

On Facebook - Post your picture and tag @CocaCola - you can also visit Coke's Facebook page and post your bottle picture as a comment on one of their recent posts!

On Twitter - Post your picture on Twitter and tag @CocaCola and @CocaColaEP - you can also use #EndOceanPlastics (and #ShareACoke to make a Coke bottle emoji appear!)

Whether it's in your local park, on a beach, in a river or even just on the sidewalk, many of us will have spotted discarded Coke bottles.

And although some of these may be a long way from the sea, that's not to say they won't end up there - whether as runoff from urban areas, via rivers and waterways or broken down into tiny microplastics.

Coca-Cola has a special responsibility to take action because of its huge plastic footprint - and this means coming up with alternatives to throwaway plastic bottles.

The more of us who share our photos with Coke, the more pressure they'll be under to take action. Together we can show the company the evidence of its plastic pollution that it can't ignore.

Thanks for all you do,

-Sarah

Thanks Obama Foundation...Keep up the great work!

Dear Obama Foundation:

I  would love to donate but as usual I am barely surviving on the poverty line. If I had extra money I would buy a super computer and help to invigorate your Obama foundation. Such a computer is currently priced at Four Thousand Dollars. My current computer is no longer being supported.

If I had extra money I would put money down on a Thirty Five Thousand Dollar Tesla Electric Car powered by a new Glass Sodium Battery. The new Battery is a game changer for the industrial economy. I  would be proud to own such a car and I  would publicize the vehicle all over Quebec and Canada and the world and by example force change away from pollution and polluters.

If I had extra money I would deposit more money towards non-profit foundations presently helping children and adults surviving in desperate need.
The problem is that as I and millions of others depend on our social monetary systems for basic survival, we create industrial pollution. The money we currently depend on is based on Oil and Oil byproducts. We need to plant more home and co-operative public gardens.

Presently the flow of Money helps to create dangerous amounts of CO2 pollution in the atmosphere and we have to implement changes that will help to create a clean economy which benefits nature. Nature sustains us and not the other way around and to continue destroying nature for profit is basically sick!

The problem is that many of our present corporate leaders fear change and these particular individuals have and continue to do anything to prevent changes away from their particular power sources. Changing their mind set has to be created within the homes and schools of the world and that takes courage and a great deal of effort. Keep up the great work and if you wish to help me I am sure you can find my home address. For my part I will continue to create free publicity for the common good.
Thanks for reading!
