A CORPORATION PLAN FOR WORLD DOMINATION?
World domination by corporations! Say it isn't so!

I could not agree more!
There’s No Climate Leadership in a Tarsands Pipeline
Right now there are over 100 wildfires burning in Alberta, 24 are out of control.Parkland County, Alberta has declared a state of agricultural disaster because moisture levels in some areas of the province are at their lowest levels in 50 years.Recently, parts of southern Alberta were hit with power outages and major floods because of extreme thunderstorms.None of these events can be directly linked to climate change but they are all signs of the climate crisis and extreme weather events are expected only to increase in intensity and frequency the longer the world fails to act. You’d think with such clear signs all around her Premier Rachel Notley would get the message. Unfortunately she hasn’t.Instead of talking with the country’s other provincial leaders about how to speed up the transition to renewable energy, Notley met with Quebec’s premier to talk about how to dig us further into the problem by green lighting the $12-billion Energy East tar sands pipeline. If constructed, Energy East would carry 1.1 million barrels of crude a day and producing the crude needed to fill it would generate up 32 million tonnes of additional greenhouse gas emissions each year — an impact even greater than the proposed Keystone XL pipeline. That’s the equivalent of adding more than seven million cars to Canada’s roads. I’m sorry Premier Notley, but that’s not climate leadership. What politicians need to understand is that decisions related to climate need to be based on science, not political posturing. The scientific prescription is pretty clear - we need to leave the vast majority of fossil fuels in the ground and transition to renewables and sustainable transportation as quickly as possible. The International Energy Agency, the United Nations and the International Panel on Climate Change have all told us that. Most recently, over 100 scientists and economists called for an end to new tar sands development. If we listen to the science, and we should, the answer isn’t more pipelines and refineries – they would lock us into more bad decisions for decades to come. The answer is more solar panels and wind turbines. It is more high-speed rail and electric vehicles, more bicycles, and geothermal energy. It’s more retrofitted buildings and localized food production. It’s about building an economy that rests within the ecological limits of the planet, not outside of them, and one that puts workers and communities most directly impacted by the coming changes first to benefit in the transition. That’s the Canadian energy strategy we need.Other countries are already showing the way. Last week Denmark produced 140% of its electricity from wind power. Germany currently employs over 350,000 people in its renewable energy sector, most of which is locally owned, and many countries around the world are on the road to 100% fossil freedom.Unfortunately, in Canada, the political will to take these steps is still missing in action and any hopes of provincial leadership are drying up faster than California.Luckily, while our political representatives aren’t getting the message, the public is. While Notley may have brokered a backroom deal with the Quebec government, she hasn’t made a deal with the Quebec people. Given that over 25,000+ people marched in the streets of Quebec City this past April calling for climate action, she won’t get such a deal any time soon.We need to say no to new pipelines and to keep fighting tarsands projects so that we can do what’s needed for the planet as well as give time for a new economy to take root.Maybe once Premier Notley sees solar panels on our rooftops and wind turbines in our fields she’ll finally realize the solutions come when you stop looking down and start looking up.Mike Hudema
Dear Randall Garrison M.P.
Bill c-279 update.
Good luck on your trans-gender equal rights bill c-279. If the NDP wins the next election you will find it much easier to pass your bill. Meanwhile, there is an economic crisis on the horizon as the world switches over from oil to alternative energy systems. The world is running out of oil and since our Canadian economy is ninety percent based on oil, we may find ourselves in an economic down-turn lasting several years! If we do not begin a rapid change towards alternative energy sources quickly, we will not be prepared for what lies ahead.

One great alternative is Hydrogen. It can be made cheaply and it easily replaces gas as a fuel source. In the near future, water splitting units which create Hydrogen gas from water will need Iron and Nickel electrodes. Iron and Nickel are two natural resources Canada has in abundance. If you do not know what I am talking about it is time the NDP creates a serious fact finding mission. Begin with the fact the world is running out of Oil and then search for the alternative vehicles such as Tesla and Nissan which will mitigate a potential and probable economic crash! Find the Hydrogen water splitter that uses cheap Iron and Nickel electrodes and do like China, prepare now for tomorrow or fall with the U.S. Dollar.
Thanks for reading.

Gentle readers:
1. Canadian government opposition members Justin Trudeau and Thomas Mulcair would be wise to consider talking about economic diversification away from an Oil based polluting industrial economy. The worst thing we Canadians can do is re-elect a company controlled Conservative government that absolutely refuses to create necessary changes! Our world Oil supplies have peaked and shrinking fast! To avoid a serious economic disaster we need to quickly switch to Hybrid Electric / Hydrogen powered cars. The Chinese government is already making the switch. They are purchasing only Electric vehicles from Japan and Chinese scientists within American universities have created a cheap way to produce Hydrogen.
2. Hydrogen, which until recently was expensive to produce, can now be easily created utilizing cheap water splitting technology based on Nickel / Iron oxide. The Hydrogen created is part of the power system on board an Electric Battery powered vehicle and is utilized by a fuel cell which feeds Electricity to the Batteries. With the help of Hydrogen and Solar Panels, Electric battery powered vehicles will significantly extend their driving range and will be faster and cleaner than Gas based vehicles.. There does not need to be an economic disaster simply because we are running out of polluting Oil! The technology is here and now and Electric/Hydrogen Hybrids can be on the market within a year. Do not believe anybody who declares we have to wait Ten, Twenty or Thirty years for clean non polluting vehicles. If you need proof for the power of Hydrogen, simply look up at the Sun.
3. Dr. David Suzuki, our Canadian genetic scientist, adamantly believes and I agree that protection for our natural environment must be included within Canada's Constitution.
4. With healthy and protected lakes and streams and forests we will once again have clean air and water and sooner than most people believe! Nature has a way of quickly replenishing itself.
5. It has lately been discovered that removing dangerous chemicals from inside our own bodies can take as little as Two weeks. The secret is to eat only pesticide and hormone free foods. I suggest placing a light mosquito netting over your own small personal back-yard or roof top vegetable garden. It will help to keep bugs out!
6. Of course creating an economy based on protecting the environment is difficult but certainly not impossible! The incredible Mr. Elon Musk and his fantastic Electric car is proof of that statement. Cars that do not burn gas and do not pollute the atmosphere are presently on the market.
7. Plastics made from Oil will continue plaguing our lives but recycling plastics and metal and adamantly asking for better quality products is now part of our lexicon. Soon Co2 and Carbon Monoxide emissions will be a thing of the past and hopefully that will happen before global warming makes us extinct!
8. Our new Canadian government can pay people to plant trees, protect forests and grow gardens everywhere including on re-enforced roof-tops of industrial buildings. Years ago, school children were set free during the summer months in order to help their parents plant and harvest food crops. Today, giant planting and harvesting machines in conjunction with Monsanto motivated mono-crops and cheap immigrant labour has created a system where many of our school children have nothing to do during the summer months but watch television and play computer games on mini pocket computers. Also, Millions of North American children have become over-weight and unhealthy on White bread and hormone fed Beef.
9. Millions of Canadian citizens today are trapped either living or working in Cities created with: Asphalt, Cement, Glass and Steel and so called Condominium buildings are helping to crowd the elderly into smaller and smaller spaces. An industrial system originally created to save human labour has become a pollution threat to our Planet! With extreme unregulated population growth our human Oil based industrial system has created global warming and today we are feeling the effects. We have to limit our population growth utilizing better education and we have to change our economic system. If you want to give future children a chance to survive on this planet we must create changes today! There are zero alternatives!

Dangerous fires in Western Canada!
Hello gentle people: Remember global warming? It is still with us and getting worse and until we remove the industrial domination from within our governments and place nature above corporate greed, our children and grand children will face more than a few unnatural life devastating scenarios!
Remember that song: 'Don't let the smoke get in your eyes?' Out West in Canada, today, July 2, 2015, forest fires are out of control and more than a few clustered near the Athabasca Oil sands. Gee! I wonder why? Could it possibly be that the Tar Sand investors want to clear the forest in order to find Bitumen oil closer to the surface. No! They wouldn't do that in a country that values its environment...or would they?
"Oil sand mining has a large impact on the environment. Forests must be cleared for both open-pit and in situ mining. Pit mines can grow to more than 80 meters depth, as massive trucks remove up to 720,000 tons of sand every day. As of September 2011, roughly 663 square kilometers (256 square miles) of land had been disturbed for oil sand mining."
I can only imagine what would happen if the Tar sands caught fire!

Here is a report from NASA. http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/
----------------------------
The 2015 fire season got off to an unusually early start in Canada when blazes broke out in the Northwest Territories, British Columbia, and Alberta in late May. As the season has progressed, the air in western Canada—as well as large swaths of the United States—grew gray and hazy with smoke.
Beginning on June 28, a sharp trough in the jet stream sent a river of smoke streaming south into the United States. By June 29, smoke darkened the skies over much of Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa.
On June 29, 2015, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image of smoke from hundreds of wildfires in western Canada. Actively burning areas, detected by the thermal bands on MODIS, are outlined in red, while forests appear dark green. The image below shows shows a closer view of smoke and fires burning in northern Alberta near the Athabasca oil sands. While hundreds of fires are burning throughout Canada, some of the fires producing the most smoke are clustered in this area.

"Monsanto, one of the world's most evil corporations!"
Dear Joseph,
Monsanto, one of the world’s most evil corporations, just keeps getting worse. Monsanto's latest victims? Poverty-stricken Indian farmers.
Back in 2012, 13,754 farmers in India committed suicide. That’s one suicide every 38 minutes.
Why? Massive, crippling debts, made worse by exorbitant annual fees charged by Monsanto for seeds.
There’s no way poor Indian farmers can stand up to Monsanto alone. So we’re launching a campaign to demand that Monsanto stop charging the crippling annual royalties causing so much suffering.
Monsanto's GMO crops were introduced in India in 2002, and since then there’s been a sharp rise in the suicide rate among Indian farmers -- and it’s not hard to see why.
For centuries, farmers made a living by saving seeds from one year’s crop to the next.
But today, Monsanto is claiming patent rights over seeds -- the fundamental source of all plant life -- and forcing farmers to pay for new seeds every single year.
The result is a crippling cycle of poverty, from which farmers see no way out.
Mega-corporations like Monsanto act like they can destroy people’s lives as long as they’re improving shareholder returns. But time and again we’re showing these corporations that we will shine a light on the practices they want to hide in the shadows.
Like when Newmont mining company sent a private security firm to intimidate Máxima Acuña Chaupe, thousands of us chipped in to bring her allies to Newmont’s shareholder meeting where the CEO pledged to stop development of the mine.
As Vandana Shiva has said, when corporations control seeds, they control life. Monsanto is taking a renewable common resource and turning it into a non renewable, patented commodity.
We know that Indian farmers can’t fight Monsanto alone. That’s why SumOfUs was created -- to leverage the global power of consumers from around the world to fight multinational corporations together.
Thanks for all you do,
Kaytee, Jon and the team at SumOfUs
P.S. Over 100,000 of us have signed to keep Monsanto's lobbyists at arms distance in the U.S. Presidential race -- but Monsanto's reach is truly global. Will you make a donation today to help farmers in India too?
Will you chip in CA$1 to help get this campaign off the ground?
