Dirty tricks and who creates them!

The world humanitarian peace and ecology movement is against the bitumen tar oil East pipeline.

________________________________________________________________

Leaked documents show TransCanada planning “dirty tricks” campaign to support Energy East pipeline

Feature story - November 18, 2014
Having a vigorous debate about pipelines and Canada’s energy future is something Greenpeace endorses – but what happens when one side of the debate creates fake groups to make it seem like they have more people on their side than they really do? That’s what appears to be happening regarding the Energy East pipeline and it’s a troubling development.
Today, Greenpeace Canada released leaked documents that it says shows that TransCanada is using deceitful tactics to attack environmental advocates. Greenpeace said the documents involve secret public relations and a “grassroots advocacy” strategy by TransCanada to put pressure on politicians and critics of their Energy East pipeline proposal – tactics similar to those employed by the oil industry in the U.S. to attack environmental advocates.
“Clearly TransCanada is worried about the growing opposition to their Energy East tar sands pipeline,” said Keith Stewart, Greenpeace Canada Climate and Energy Campaign coordinator. “These documents show that TransCanada is planning a secret dirty tricks campaign, using third parties to attack and smear its critics.”
The strategy was prepared for TransCanada by Edelman, the largest public relations firm in the world. Edelman has worked extensively for the oil industry, including running a multi-million dollar campaign for the American Petroleum Institute and the Koch brothers-affiliated American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) to defeat climate legislation in the United States.
The documents, written between May and August 2014, lay out a strategy to “Add layers of difficulty for our opponents, distracting them from their mission and causing them to redirect their resources” by recruiting third parties to do and say things “when TransCanada can’t.” They identify over 40 Edelman staff members and nine TransCanada staffers who will work on the campaign, which is led from Edelman’s DC office. The advertising and pro-Energy East advocacy website described in the documents has already been launched.
“They are importing what they acknowledge is an ‘aggressive’ U.S. model of politics and have brought in American public relations experts with a history of using fake grassroots groups to attack industry critics to execute this plan,” said Stewart. “When oil companies create front groups to smear their opponents, they degrade democratic debate. Greenpeace may be fierce in the defence of our environment, but we put our names to our statements and publish the research to back them up. We expect oil companies to do the same.”
The documents state “This campaign approach has a strong heritage in the more aggressive politics and policy fights in the U.S., and those lessons and best practices will be critical to our success.” Edelman staff identified in these documents includes key individuals with experience running pro-industry “astroturf” (fake grassroots) campaigns to attack industry critics and block action on climate change in the U.S. These individuals also have strong Republican and Tea Party ties.
The most detailed document from the TransCanada-Edelman alliance is the Strategic Plan for Quebec, which highlights specific communities, organizations and community leaders that it says pose challenges for the project.
“Quebecers want clean energy, not dirty oil,” said Patrick Bonin, a Climate and Energy campaigner with Greenpeace in Quebec. “We will share these documents with the individuals and organization targeted by TransCanada’s campaign, so that they can prepare to defend themselves.”
If you think this pipeline should be judged based on its climate impact and not just public relations spin, sign here.

Declare the Arctic a World Heritage Site.

Gentle People. The following is an urgent message from my friends at Green-Peace.  Apparently the Canadian Conservative government and their international friends are again trying to find Oil in the Arctic. Hopefully, the Canadian Conservatives will be voted out of office in the next election and the United Nations will declare the Arctic a world heritage site, off-limits to all polluters.

Joseph

Something big is happening in one of the tiniest, most remote places in the world: the people of Clyde River, Nunavut — a hamlet of just 900 people — are taking the Canadian government to court.

The National Energy Board, a federal energy regulator, has recently approved a five-year search for oil off Clyde River’s coast, allowing seismic testing — a process of firing explosions through the ocean to find oil — as a first step towards dangerous Arctic oil drilling.

How loud are these explosions? Imagine standing underneath a jumbo jet as it takes off — only you can’t cover your ears to block out the sound. Already, 34,118 people have added their voice to help Clyde River keep the oil industry out of Canada's Arctic, add yours today.

Incredibly, 80-90% of the world’s narwhal population lives off the coast of Clyde River, and these explosions can disrupt their migration paths, sometimes causing permanent hearing loss, and in the worst case, death. The people of Clyde River aren’t going to stand by and let this happen.

It took a great deal of courage and determination to launch this legal battle against the Canadian government. And the community of Clyde River is going into it hopeful with the knowledge that in 2010, the Qikiqtani Inuit Association successfully stopped seismic testing from happening nearby in Lancaster Sound.

We too are hopeful, as this important case has been described by Clyde River's lawyer as "hard, but not unwinnable." Hard, because of how much influence the oil industry has over the government, but winnable because we know that you are going to join us and stand behind this brave community. Add your voice, help Clyde River keep the oil industry out of Canada's Arctic.
Thank you,

Tips and Tricks for basic survival in Winter.

Survival tips and tricks for basic low income people...including myself.
1. During the winter months take a hot bath and relax and then allow the hot water to slowly cool before sending it down the drain. Leave the bathroom air venting fan on for a few minutes in order to remove most of the humidity and then use a roll up window shade or a small  sheet of plastic to cover your bath. This will stop most of the humidity and will allow the heat from the bath water to escape and keep your bathroom warm for hours. Leave the bathroom door open and the heat will transfer into your apartment or home. The alternative is to drain your hot water and then spend hundreds of dollars on your electricity bill.

2. Speaking of the Electricity bill here is a great idea! Place a shut-off  switch next to the hot water heater and after taking a bath or a shower, shut off the hot water reservoir tank. Turn it back on only when you need a bath or shower once or twice a week The saving on your Electricity bill will be dramatic!

3. Today most people wash their clothes in cold water but did you know you could wash your dishes in cold water and Vinegar?  Fill up an empty litre pump bottle with both Vinegar and a squirt of non-polluting dish soap. I use a dish soap called 'Attitude' which claims not to contain carcinogens.
Squirt your dishes and leave them for five seconds and then rinse. Repeat if you find anything left alive on your dishes! Grin! For those of you with little faith...I have been doing this for years and it works!

4. It is cold in winter so dress warmly and in layers. I wear two light cotton T-shirts and a sweater during the day and I keep them on when I go to bed. The next morning I will remove the inner T-shirt and throw it into a soapy cold water filled bucket. The revolving shirt system works great and I always have a clean and soft cotton T-shirt against my skin. One more thing! Cotton T-shirts are everywhere and cheap!

5. With the traffic on the roads today, driving a car is dangerous!  Take a bus or a train or a walk For those who walk, make sure you have small cleats under your boots for the icy side-walks and streets. I walk with my Bicycle for extra grip on icy roads and I ride the Bike when the roads are clean and dry...even in winter!

6. Don't forget to throw rock salt on your stairs and side-walks. More tips and tricks later.
Bye for now. J.R.

God is our name for the eternal energy of the universe...not Oil!

If I believed in God as a supreme being it would be fun to take his place during the Holidays!

For example!
If I were God I would immediately take away all weapons from dangerous and cruel human beings!
If I were God I would instantly take away power from current world leaders and elevate into power every poor and honest non-profit organization working to save lives.
If I were God I would instantly grow large trees in every empty space and create flower and vegetable gardens near or under those trees using companion planting and without using pesticides.
If I were God there would be an abundance of free food and water and clean air for every living person.
If I were God every child would have a loving mother and father.
If I were God there would be no sick children, anywhere!
If I were God fear would not exist and would be replaced with love and compassion.
If I were God every adult would have a fulfilling and creative employment.
If I were God every human being would have the capacity to learn all the secrets of the universe.

Sadly, I do not believe in God as a supreme being but happily I do believe that God is a great name for the eternal energy of the universe. I also accept and understand the idea that I am energy compiled into a human form and therefore I am a small part of the eternal energy of the universe. In other words you and I and all living things are part of God...but before you become too ego inflated...so are all inanimate objects.

I also accept, during the Holidays, every other religious name created by human beings attempting to understand the eternal energy of the universe. Happy Holidays!

JOSEPH Raglione,
We so appreciate all you do as a member of our Community. Just wanted to be sure you saw this.
All the best,
Michael
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The coming holidays are the high season of consumerism. Around the world, people are gripped by a frantic push to get into shopping malls and buy, buy, buy. This is all part of The Story of Stuff, a tale of infinite growth and constant work that is ripping up our planet and making us miserable in the process.
But together with you, we at the Story of Stuff Project have been writing a different narrative, full of stories that focus on improving our quality of life, not the quantity of Stuff in our lives.
Our stories have reached more than 10 million people this year alone, inspiring countless heroes to grow Solutions – from the Community member who started the first recycling program for Goiania City in Brazil, to the member who created the app Think Dirty to inform women of toxins in beauty products, to the member who created Zip 2 Water, a portable water filtration system to cut down on bottled water usage at outdoor events.
You, The Story of Stuff Community, are why we do our work. Whether working alone or together, you are living proof that a better world is possible. Together, we are pushing back against the hectic consumption and highlighting a better world. We cannot do it without you, the 800,000-strong global Story Community members, and we want to further empower you become even stronger agents of change.

This fall, we launched our Citizen Muscle Boot Camp, a four-week online program that helps participants discover their purpose and talk about and gather friends around that purpose to make a difference. Already hundreds of you have used the Boot Camp to identify the issues you are passionate about and start flexing your citizen muscles. We are on track for thousands more of you to follow in the year ahead.

We are planning to invest in new technology and staff to work directly with Boot Camp graduates to bring their Solutions to life in their local communities. Your contribution will enable us to harness the energy of the Story Community and begin building a better world from the ground up in local communities across the planet. We want to empower you to successfully pass a plastic bag ban in your local community, work to preserve the natural landscape, or improve your local recycling program.
Individually, we are inspired to find Solutions to the many problems we’re facing, but as Annie highlights in The Story of Change, individual action is only the first step. That’s why we’re growing our Campaigns Team, to leverage your collective power to create positive change around the world. Together, you are telling a new Story -- standing up for ourselves, our neighbors and this incredible place we call home. We already accomplishing big things, from helping pass America’s first state-level plastic bag ban in California to supporting the community of Fryeburg, Maine in its fight for a local water resource to helping Australians preserve the primordial forests of Tasmania.
You are speaking out to preserve our natural resources, reduce waste, and push back against the rampant consumerism making us miserable. Though the campaigns program has only been up and running for a few months, you have already taken over 800,000 actions. In the coming months we hope to hire more campaigners to amplify your voice even further, taking it to decision-makers in governments and multinational headquarters around the globe.

That’s not all – we are also building out local Chapters of the Story around the world, allowing you to connect with other Community members and share your own stories. These will allow you to connect with people who share your values, to talk about positive Solutions and engage in the collective work of making those Solutions real.

We have a big task ahead, but we have an incredible Community behind us. We know that a better world is possible, and we are seeing it created with each person who hears our message and uses it to better their lives and the lives of those around them.

Thank you for all you do!

Michael O'Heaney, Executive Director of The Story of Stuff

American citizens:

Two years: That's all the time I have left as your president.

I know what I'm going to be fighting for until I leave this office.

And the work you do now with OFA -- whatever it is that you choose to fight for -- will define what we can achieve together in that time.

So let's go. If it's raising the minimum wage for hard-working Americans or fixing our broken immigration system that fires you up, I need you to stand up for it. If it's gun violence prevention, speak out. If it's marriage equality, or women's rights, or getting serious about fighting climate change, your voice is needed like never before.

The elected officials I'll work with in the last two years of my presidency need to be reminded that people like you aren't going away.

They need to know you won't let the special interests in Washington drown out the voices of Americans who want to drive our country forward. That's what OFA was built to do.

So today, I'm asking directly: Will you commit to finish what you started with OFA?

I want to be clear about this: The difference you make isn't theoretical -- what you choose to do has a concrete impact.

When it comes to health care reform and the effort to help Americans across the country get covered in the months ahead, the role you play will be life-changing for real people. I've seen it.

Because of you, and groups like OFA, the face of American politics is fundamentally different today. You've changed what it means to get involved, and you've redefined how power is built.

Last week's election doesn't change that -- it just makes your job all the more critical.

With or without help from Congress, I'm not done making real change for the American people. And I bet you aren't, either.

Let's hear it:

What the U.S. and China announced last night:‏

Gentle readers, an important message from the White House.

Last night, President Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping jointly announced crucial new actions to protect our climate. And because of American leadership, China is making critical new commitments.
Building on the progress we've already made, the U.S. will set a new target of cutting our net greenhouse gas emissions 26% to 28% below 2005 levels by 2025. And President Xi announced new plans to increase the share of renewable energy and nuclear power that China uses to roughly 20% by 2030 -- up from only 8% in 2009 -- and, for the first time, set a target for when China will max out its carbon emissions.
The U.S. and China together account for more than a third of global greenhouse gas emissions -- so together, we have an especially important role to play in fighting climate change.
Learn more about the historic climate announcements.
Back in 2009 when President Obama took office, U.S. greenhouse gas emissions were projected to continue increasing indefinitely, at a rate of about 1.2% each year. But the President set an ambitious goal that November to cut emissions "in the range of 17% below 2005 levels" by 2020.
We’re on track to achieve that goal. Since taking office, President Obama has:
  • Put in place appliance efficiency standards that will save American consumers more than $450 billion on their utility bills through 2030
  • Established standards that will increase fuel economy to the equivalent of 54.5 miles per gallon for cars and light-duty trucks, nearly doubling the fuel efficiency of our vehicles and saving consumers $1.7 trillion at the pump over the lifetime of the program
  • Released the first-ever proposal for carbon pollution standards for both new and existing power plants
  • Increased electricity generation from solar more than ten-fold, and tripled electricity production from wind power
  • Invested more than $80 billion in clean energy technologies
And the new emission reduction target that the President announced last night will roughly double the pace of our carbon pollution reduction -- from 1.2% per year from 2005 to 2020, to 2.3-2.8% from 2020 to 2025.
This target keeps us on track to reduce our carbon pollution on the order of 80% by 2050, and means the U.S. is doing our part to keep global temperatures from rising more than 2 degrees Celsius.

Gentle People:

Yesterday was November 11th., a day to remember for most people but I try not to remember. On that day I try to forget how they instructed millions of us school children on our need to hide under our desks in case of a nuclear war. Apparently they understood very little about the total devastation of nuclear bombs! They then proceeded to test extremely loud air raid sirens in order to warn us of impending doom! I try not to remember the countless years of war and the millions of tortured victims of war! I try not to remember the bloodshed and murder and the ongoing struggles for territory as well as the killings based on human greed or politics or religion and often for Oil wealth.

I PREFER TO CELEBRATE LIFE ON A DAILY BASIS AND ATTEMPT WITH THE BEST OF MY ABILITY TO CREATE AND SPREAD AROUND THE WORLD A RESPECT FOR LIFE BASED ON LOVE! HAVE A HAPPY LIFE AND DON'T FORGET TO PLANT TREES AND A VEGETABLE GARDEN.

OBAMA IS NOT THE BAD GUY! SAVE HIM FROM THE REPUBLICAN MACHINE!

Gentle Readers:

If the Republicans take over the Senate today, November 4th., 2014, your president Obama will become a lame duck president with zero power to help protect your civil rights or stop the banks from raising your credit card interest rates or bank mortgage rates.
1. You can also expect the Republicans and their corporate friends to take over the White House in the next U.S. election.
2. After that your social protection programs will fall like Dominoes beginning with your new Medical insurance protection.
3. The XL Pipeline project will be given the Green light and the fossil fuel industry will celebrate!
4. Industrial pollution will double as environment protection laws fall by the wayside.
5. The price of food will double as global warming heats up western farm fields and droughts destroy crops.
6. The military industrial machine will expand and wars will continue to profit the gun and bomb makers.
7. Homeland security will double and your basic freedoms will disappear!
7.  Voting for a full Democratic government is the only way the U.S. will continue to prosper but the Media works for the Republicans and most people believe what they are told on Television. Commercial television will double and news programs will be dominated by commercial brain numbing hype.

Pass on this message to as many computer networks as possible because it is the only way to reach many people as quickly as possible!
